The Theatre of the Peace and Friendship Park is located in the heart of the city centre and is constantly interacting with the urban fabric. It comprises a variety of landscapes and materials, such as short plants, evergreen and deciduous trees, cobblestone paving, water, hard materials and soil. The park’s current form is the result of the study submitted to the Municipality of Chania in 1987. In recent years, efforts have been made for its upgrading in order to attract more people. The initial design of the park aimed at preserving the existing plants in most of its area and at adding more plants to it. Moreover, its four “entrances” were preserved. An open area has been created to the north, which features places to sit, trees, and an axis covered with wooden boards. This axis crosses the park until its southern entrance-exit. Walking along this axis, visitors reach the amphitheatre (located below ground level), another open area entirely covered with wooden boards and other smaller areas (also below ground level).
The Theatre of the Peace and Friendship Park is located on Andrea Papandreou Street, next to our Municipal Garden. It can host theatre and dance performances, concerts, traditional events, etc., which are free for the public.
